So you want to learn the trick all the champs do?
The Tangler is a tried and tested trick. Learn it because it’s important to 5A yoyo play, but don’t rely on it too much. It’s a great one to help build your rhythm. Many 5A tricks will require you to have some rhythm in your moves to be successful. Throw on your dancing shoes and let’s get started.
The focus of this tangler is tangling away from your body. It is important to note that this tutorial does not dictate that this is the one all, be all, basic Tangler. There is no right or wrong way to get into a Tangler, however I find this method to be one of the more robust in terms of getting into the tangler from a previous combo. Alternatively, you could just swing the yoyo and counterweight in pinwheels and cross them, that’ll tangle too. There’s not many elegant ways to get into that from any other combo though.
Just because the counterweight isn’t clanking with the yoyo doesn’t mean your tangler is pretty. The best tanglers are the ones where the yoyo and counterweight spin as one, in a straight line always 180 degrees from their counterpart.
Once you get this down we’ll get to some important variations in the later levels of play.
